Annual Meetings

G-CAN Annual Symposium

Gout and hyperuricemia are global public health problems, and most often under-managed. This is despite the fact that gout and hyperuricemia promote increased cardiovascular events and mortality.  Since 2015, the Gout, Hyperuricemia and Crystal-Associated Disease Network has been convening for an annual symposium featuring presentations by top researchers in the field, as well as emerging young investigators.  The annual meeting is an opportunity to promote sharing of findings and education to an international audience to increase the understanding of gout and associated diseases.

Each year, researchers who are in the early stages of their career are invited to submit abstracts. A panel of G-CAN board members rank the abstracts and grade them. The abstract with the highest score is the recipient of the Ralph Schumacher award. The top five give oral presentations and the remaining selected give poster presentations. Supported by our sponsors, the Early Career Investigator Symposium gives talented young researchers in the field of crystal-associated disease the opportunity to gain exposure and share dynamic new research during the meeting.
